The New York Giants Show The World That Professional Football Is For Real

Professional football has been around since the early 1900’s, but it often wasn’t taken seriously at that time by the press, football fans, and even some football players. The college game was seen as more pure and more intense at the time, and deservedly so. While college football had a distinct structure, pro leagues were starting and folding quite regularly and many of the better teams were independent and never played a set schedule or in an established league.

The National Football League was founded in 1920 and was an attempt by a group of owners to finally establish a reputable pro football organization. It somewhat worked and was a great base to build from, but by 1930, college football still was the game watched by most fans and reported on as the superior form of football by most newspapers.

In 1930, America was still near the beginning of the Great Depression and there was a great many creative ideas put out to either help the unemployed get actual jobs or to raise money for the poor. One idea that came out of New York City was to have the New York Giants football team, a team that had just joined the NFL five years earlier in 1925, play a team of Notre Dame All-Stars with the proceeds going to raise money for the unemployed of the city. Notre Dame was the main college football powerhouse of the time and was eyed by football fans across the country as the best, or one of the best, teams in the league. Legendary Notre Dame head coach Knute Rockne assembled the team and it included the famous Four Horsemen and also some of the stars from the 1924 National Championship team.

Going into the game, Notre Dame was a huge favorite and the debate seemed to center around how many points they would win by. Coach Rockne’s strategy was to score early and then slow the game down and play tough defense. He would admit later that like many of those watching the game, he expected a somewhat easy victory. Giants quarterback Benny Friedman would run for two touchdowns and Hap Moran would pass for another as the New York professional team not only beat the Notre Dame All-Star team, but blew them out and didn’t even let them score one single time. Following the game, a famous quote from Rockne has him telling his team “That was the greatest football machine I ever saw. I am glad none of you got hurt.”

Professional football did not suddenly become the biggest game xem bong da truc tiep in the country following that win by the Giants, but it established the NFL as a legitimate and possibly superior brand of football. The league would build on that game over the years and eventually football fans and the media would be forced to recognize pro football as a higher level of play than the college game. This isn’t to say it is better than college football as both games are different from each other and each exciting to watch. The Giants beating Knute Rockne’s Notre Dame All-Stars that day though showed everyone that pro football was for real.

One of the famous competitive sports in the United States is the American football which is also called as tackle football or gridiron. In America, the different forms of footballs include high school football, college football and professional football, even though each of the games has their own rules. The major form of the professional American football is the National Football League.

This sport is controlled by the International Federation of American Football over the five continents where the game is played.

If you look into the history of this game, you will find that it traces back to the earlier forms of rugby football and association football. Actually, it can be mainly said that the American football was in turn developed with several variations in the rugby football, and the changes in the rule were formulated by Walter Camp who is actually referred to as the ‘Father of American Football’.
